This research examines television fiction as an audiovisual discourse and as a cultural product that reflects social dynamics, gender representations and subjectivities of the historic moment. Television reproduces general norms and traditional mandates about individuals and their roles but, as in the case of ‘Borgen’, the feminine is constructed as an active political subject with social agency. The main objective of this study is to link the construction of characters in contemporary audiovisual narrative with the concepts of technologies and gender studies. Through the discourse analysis of the television series ‘Borgen’, it is demonstrated that the audiovisual representation of women from a gender perspective can generate behaviors that subserve equal opportunities in a patriarchal sociopolitical space and time. By supplementing these concepts with studies of power, subject and politics, this research defends the active role of women as a catalyst capable of changing society and building it from the principles of the common good, inclusion and parity in all its spheres. The narrative codes of the television series ‘Borgen’ develop new female archetypes that dilute stereotypes by bringing viewers closer to gender equality as a noble gesture and respect for human freedoms.
