The following paper exposes the problems of transnational musical theatre in opposition to the original national productions of musical theatre in Peru. All this in order to generate a reflection on our industry and the influence of big format theatre producers on this industry’s growth. Various advantages and disadvantages for the growing of theatre industry are evaluated based on the differentiation between "transnational theatre" and original local productions. Likewise, terms such as "glocalization", "McTheatre" and "active culture" are explored, taking examples from our context, with the aim of relating them to the ethical responsibility of the producers when it comes to betting on national musical theatre plays, over other transnational musicals. Among other things, it is concluded that neither alternative is intrinsically better than the other, since finally all theatrical production are related to its context and help the growth, development and expansion of musical theatre in our country, in despite of what each individual may or may not consider as a "valuable" product for their culture.
