Abstract
In line with the influence of gender in the work context, the purpose of this study was to examine how the expressed leader humility and gender interact in predicting the psychological empowerment of subordinates. The hypotheses were contrasted using 253 surveys applied to MBA students in Ecuador. Multi-group analysis (MGA) was used with bootstrapping technique to analyze the relationships between groups combined by gender in the dyads leader-subordinate. Then, the moderating effect of the gender on the variables studied was evaluated. The results indicated that there was a significantly positive relationship between expressed leader humility and psychological empowerment, and that gender has a moderating effect role in this relationship. The impact of the leader's humility on psychological empowerment was the strongest in dyads male leader-male subordinate. It should be noted that no effect was evidenced when the leader and the subordinate were women. This research contributed to studies on gender in the context work and humility in leadership. This is the first study to provide empirical evidence of the moderating effects of gender on the relationship between the expressed leader humility and psychological empowerment.
