consumo musical.
When we listen to a piece of music we go through a process of perception, in which the physical stimuli captured by the ear are processed by the mind at an emotional and intellectual level. The perceptual experience varies depending on the context, culture and educational level of the listener. In the case of musicians in training, the stimuli that allow the construction and development of musical perceptual competencies are varied. The objective of this research is to describe the role of formal music education in the development of musical perception in 9th and 10th cycle students of the Music Specialty belonging to the Faculty of Performing Arts of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú. In the methodological aspect, a bibliographic review, surveys to students and teachers, as well as semi-structured interviews to teachers have been used. This research is divided into three chapters, covering topics such as perception, musical perception, elements perceived in musical discourse and musical perception in the context of higher music education. The results of the analysis of the instruments used during the research are also presented. These allow us to conclude that the PUCP Music Specialty trains and strengthens the perceptual competencies of the structures of musical discourse through the progressive development of the musical ear and the capacity for analysis. These competencies respond to the professional profile and their development conditions the possibilities of creation, execution and even musical consumption.
