For this purpose we evaluated a group of 19 teenagers between the ages of 13 and 22, with an average age of 16.63, who attended outpatient visits in a psychiatric hospital in Lima and had self-injurious behavior. The methods used were Thoughts Scale and self-injurious behaviors (EPCA) also the Spanish adaptation of Positive and Negative Affective Schedule (PANAS) and the abbreviated version of the inventory COPE. In addition, sociodemographic and medical history data were analyzed. Results showed in detail the characteristics of self-injurious behavior. We found that to cut your skin was the most used method and that the relief was the main reason which led people to run such conduct. Also, greater predominance of negative affect and slightly passive coping was found. Finally, differences in coping styles were found and affectivity regarding the age of onset of harming participants and the number of times the behavior performed in the last year.
