The aim of the present study is to analyze the correlation between state-trait anxiety and coping strategies among a group of music students. Furthermore, the differences between sex and migration will be explored. Data on anxiety and coping strategies will be collected using the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory STAI (Spielberger, Gorsuch & Lushene, 1970) and the Coping Orientation to Problems Experienced COPE (Carver, Scheier & Weintraub, 1989), in its COPE 60 version (Cassaretto & Chau, 2016). A total of 95 undergraduated students, aged 17-37 years old completed the study measures from a music conservatory in Lima. Results indicated focus on and venting of emotions was associated with higher levels of state and trait anxiety. Meanwhile, active coping and planning was associated with lower levels of state and trait anxiety. A gender difference in state anxiety was found. Females reported higher levels of state anxiety. Moreover, migrant students reported higher levels of state anxiety. In the other hand, differences in coping strategies was found. Males reported higher scores in suppression of competing activities and humor than females. As conclusions, results were similar to previous studies in college students.
