This research deals with the instrumentalization processes of the ellipse using the Geogebra as mediator and is addressed to Mathematics I students in the career of Architecture and Project Administration at a private university in the city of Lima. The instrumentalization process was essentially based on the enrichment of the properties of the ellipse by the subject during a sequence of activities mediated by the Geogebra software and that made possible the emergence and progressive discovery of its components. From this set of activities the students identified the geometric condition of the ellipse, the relation between its parameters, eccentricity, location of vertex, foci, extremes of the minor axis, the stroke of the straight side length and linked the graphic representation to the appropriate algebraic expression by identifying the relation between the semi-axes of the elliptic curve and the elements of such algebraic expression. In this paper, the question that directed our research was: Does a sequence of Geogebra-mediated activities allow the Architecture and Project Administration students to instrumentalize the ellipse? In order to answer this question, our objective is to encourage the instrumentalization of the notion of ellipse when students work a sequence of Geogebra-mediated activities. In the analysis of the students’ actions, Rabardel’s Instrumental Approach was chosen as a theoretical reference and the Artigue’s Didactic Engineering as a methodological reference. As from the design of our activities, we tried to describe the instrumentalization process of the ellipse and identified by means of the actions the possible schemes of use that the students constructed or mobilized when they worked a Geogebra-mediated sequence of learning. We observe that the Geogebra as a mediating agent allowed the subject not only to make geometrical constructions but also the interaction, exploration and management of the proposed activities. The collected information and the subsequent analysis of the sequence of activities evidenced that the students mobilized previous schemes that were indicated in the cognitive part of the Didactic Engineering, which facilitated the development of the activities and minimized any difficulties that may have arisen.
