The aim of this research is to analyze the relationship between social connectedness and the aspects of physical health and psychological well-being in older adults, specifically in patients treated at Hospital Militar Geriatrico (HMG). The proposed hypotheses are 1) greater social isolation is associated with lower levels of physical health and 2) greater social isolation is associated with lower psychological well-being. In this sense, a quantitative, non- experimental, cross-sectional study was carried out, surveying a total of 43 participants, which are older adults seen in outpatient clinics and older adults living in the geriatric residence of the HMG. The results suggest that there is evidence of a direct relationship between the dimensions of social connectedness and physical health, as well as between the dimensions of social connectedness and psychological well-being. This is consistent with what has been developed by many authors from the capability approach who stand out the importance of the lack of social relations, not only because it is considered an intrinsic component of capability poverty, but also because of its instrumental value, since not being able to freely socialize is related to deficiencies in other dimensions.
