Abstract
This research is aimed to explore how teachers view the process of supporting students’ learning in the English subject. Therefore, the following question was raised: What are English teachers’ perceptions of their formative feedback practices in two JEC (Full School Day) high schools in Lima Metropolitana? The general objective is to analyze English teachers’ perceptions of their formative feedback practices in two JEC high schools in Lima Metropolitana. The specific objectives are i) to describe how English teachers from two JEC high schools in Lima Metropolitana perceive the conceptualization of their formative feedback practices, and ii) to describe how English teachers from two JEC high schools in Lima Metropolitana perceive the actual development of their formative feedback practices. The study was carried out under a qualitative approach, without any specific type of research. We did not seek to exhaustively research, but rather naturally explore, the perceptions of formative feedback. For this reason, we conducted semi-structured interviews with four participating teachers. Among the results, it has been found that teachers perceive formative feedback as support given to students by providing clarification and making questions to allow students to come up with the answers autonomously. Among the strategies employed by them is the use of codes, teamwork, and peer feedback to develop students’ creative, critical and reflective thinking. Likewise, we believe that these perceptions allow teachers to reflect on and improve their feedback practices in class.
