The city of Cusco is considered the historical capital of Peru, due to its monumental, archaeological and cultural content. Its Historic Center represents the syncretism between Inca and colonial urbanism composed of the superposition of layers of 6 centuries of history. Currently, it is experiencing a process of gentrification and slumization due to its cultural value reflected in the predominance of tourism-oriented uses over residential use in the core. An opportunity is identified to intervene in the Banco Agrario del Perú building designed by the team of architects Cooper Graña Nicolini, which represents a milestone between traditional Cusco architecture and modern architecture, which is underused and exempt from the dynamics of its context, the Historic Center of Cusco. A line of research is defined on the building’s design strategies through the analysis of the original plans. of the PUCP Architecture Archive and contextualizes its rethinking today. Based on the results, the criteria for a public cultural facility are determined for the urban reintegration of the Banco Agrario del Perú building through the contemporary reinterpretation of the typology of the Cusco colonial patio house. In seeking to prevent its obsolescence, it is proposed to transform the Former Agrarian Bank into a cultural facility that puts the building at the service of the city, which through a more public interaction with its environment will allow the local cultural and artistic dynamics to be enhanced.
