Gender-based violence constitutes a traumatic and destabilizing event for the psyche, in a way that can give rise to representational gaps hindering its psychic elaboration and leading to the establishment of a relational pattern. The present research is a systematic study of a single case aimed at describing and understanding how representational change, expressed in subjective theories, precedes, and accompanies the change in pervasive relational configuration within the framework of a brief psychotherapeutic process with a woman who is a victim of gender-based violence. To achieve this, a qualitative and hybrid method was employed, utilizing thematic analysis, as well as the Generic Change Indicators System and the Core Conflictual Relational Theme, which allow for the study of representational change from subjective theories and relational configurations, respectively. It was found that the development of autonomy and agency arises from building a secure bond with the therapist, enabling exploration of the patient's emotions and desires, as well as understanding the role played in maintaining the relational configuration. Additionally, a corrective relational experience is generated by transforming and reinterpreting expectations of invalidation and violence in the relationship with a man. Finally, practice-based research facilitates a bridge between psychoanalytic clinical practice and research on gender-based violence in Latin America through dialogue between two different systems studying representational change.
