Receptores acoplados a proteínas G: Entendiendo cómo responde nuestro organismo a señales diversas

Abstract

This year's Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded to Americans Robert Lefkowitz and Brian Kobilka for their studies of G protein coupled receptors. These receptors are involved in cell-cell and long-distance signaling in our organisms. Moreover, they are so important for most physiological processes in human beings that practically half of our medications act through them. Studying these receptors at a molecular level is an extremely complex task but today, through the work of these two researchers, we have gained a better understanding of the mechanisms by which these receptors operate

El premio Nobel de Química de este año fue otorgado a los estadounidenses Robert Lefkowitzy Brian Kobilka por sus estudios sobre los receptores acoplados a proteínas G. Estos receptoresestán involucrados en la transmisión de señales entre células y también a largas distanciasdentro del organismo. Además, son tan importantes para los procesos fisiológicos en los sereshumanos que prácticamente la mitad de los medicamentos con los que contamos hoy en díaoperan por medio de ellos. Estudiar estos receptores a nivel molecular es una tarea muy complejapero, gracias al trabajo de estos dos investigadores, ahora podemos comprender mejorlos mecanismos mediante los cuales funcionan.
