Desde hace más de treinta años han surgido en la Cuenca del Pacífico diversas orga-nizaciones y mecanismos de carácter económico diseñados con el objeto de incrementar el comercio y los flujos de capitales, estudiar la realidad de cada uno de los países que los forman con miras a profundizar la cooperación e integración; y, más recientemente, adop-tar políticas conjuntas para acelerar los procesos de liberalización económica y comercial. Estos procesos han coadyuvado a la expansión del comercio, la inversión y las comunica-ciones y a la mayor movilidad de los factores de producción, lo que ha reducido el tamaño del Pacífico y generado una mayor interdependencia entre los países que participan de esos esquemas.
