Recreando la fe. Manifestaciones religiosas en un sector urbano popular de Mérida

Abstract

This article is located in the complex plot that surrounds the boom that religious activities have acquired in Mexico. I narrate the Sitio de Jericho and the Marian Cenacle. That is to say, various sets of religious activities that take place in the Cristo Rey parish in Mérida, the participation of the priests of that parish and that of the faithful attending these activities. From my perspective, and for analysis purposes, these activities can be seen , on the one hand, as the empirical strategy that I resort to in order to understand its meaning, the forms of insertion of the faithful in them and the ways in which they impact and, on the other, as the actions that the hierarchy of that parish undertakes to maintain its hegemony, retain its faithful in light of the numerous religious offer and fill that void that the Mexican State has left.

El presente documento se ubica en la compleja trama que envuelve el auge que las actividades religiosas han adquirido en Mexico. Narro el Sitio de Jerico y el Cenáculo Mariano. Es decir,sendos conjuntos de actividades religiosas que se realizan en la parroquia Cristo Rey de Mérida, la participación de los sacerdotes de esa parroquia y la de los fieles asistentes a estas actividades.Desde mi perspectiva, y para fines de análisis, estas actividades pueden verse, por una parte,como la estrategia empirica a la que recurro para comprender su significado, las formas de inserción de los fieles en ellas y las maneras en que impactan y, por la otra, como las acciones que emprende la jerarquia de esa parroquia para mantener su hegemonia, retener a sus fieles ante la numerosa oferta religiosa y llenar ese vacio que ha dejado el Estado Mexicano.
