Colecciones especiales en el fondo reservado de la Biblioteca del Instituto Riva-Agüero, PUCP: los desafíos del siglo XXI

Abstract

Hasta el año 2002, la Biblioteca del Instituto Riva-Agüero (IRA) de la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP) mantuvo sin visibilidad casi la totalidad de su fondo reservado y parte de él se encontraba disponible en un catálogo manual local. Con las nuevas políticas insti- tucionales del IRA se propusieron dos proyectos que están en marcha: Proyecto Retrospectivo 2000 y Digitalización de los libros de los siglos XVI-XIX. Estos buscan incorporar registros catalográficos, con un nivel descriptivo pertinente, de los materiales raros y libros anteriores a 1930 de la Biblioteca del IRA al catálogo en línea del Sistema de Bibliotecas de la PUCP, ente cooperante del World Cat de la On line Computer Library Center (OCLC). La digitalización de las colecciones especiales del fondo de libros raros de la Biblioteca del IRA posibilita su visibilidad en el catálogo en línea, lo que da lugar a novedosos resultados en cuanto a la demanda de los usuarios en relación con estos materiales. En esta contribución compartimos el proceso de dar a conocer nuestro repositorio digital a un público académico más amplio.

Before 2002, the Riva-Agüero Institute Library (IRA) of the Pontificial Catholic University of Peru (PUCP) had kept invisible to the public almost all of its reserved funds, though part of it was available in a local manual catalog. This changed with the establishment of the new institutional policies, that proposed two projects that are currently in process: Retrospective project 2000 and Digitalization of the books of the centuries XVI to XIX. These projects pursue the objective of incorporating cataloging records of all IRA’s rare material and special books before 1930, with an appropriate descriptive level, to the online catalog of the PUCP’s Libraries System, who collaborates with the World Cat’s Online Computer Library Center (OCLC). Digitalizing special collections of rare books from the fund of IRA’S Library allows the online catalog to show new results to users’ requests related to this material. In this document, we will present the process of introducing our digital repository to a larger group of academic users.
